Pre Season predictions 5th place

The season has concluded and as I look back at our results, we placed pretty high at the beginning of the season and capped off with a strong 4th placed finish in Conference. Gedyon Kiflezgi lead the TAMIU Dustdevils throughout most of the season as our 2nd and 3rd man. Eddie & Luis would flip constantly throughout the year. Robert Coronado had an injury and could not muster the same feat as he did a year ago. This year we brought new faces to the team and our first addition was Javi Soto, who missed the first meet and rode off as the 5th man until Jorge Nazarin joined us three weeks before the season ended. Jorge comes from a tennis background running is not his main talent, but Nazarin would make drastic improvements week after week bringing his times down. Oscar joined the team as well and was able to run the two meets. Oscar was a former cross country runner looking for an outlet, he got the opportunity to join us and contributed well his two races.

We had an excellent year, it might have not been perfect but we worked through the cracks, I hope we can learn from this season. Next year I hope to fill in the squads before the season begins, my leaders of today will be juniors and I know that they do not want to finish 4th or lower in the conference.

Eddie Gonzalez: Thanks for the 3 yrs you gave back to Laredo and the University.

Oscar Trevinio: Thanks for joining the squad and making the best out of it. I’ll definitely look into your eligibility.

Javi Soto: I know you got injured and I know you could have done better this last race, but rest and start all over again, I hope you and Oscar can come back for one more year.

Jorge Nazarin: Way to go man! Keep them spirits up, you got self motivation! You can do it! Never let yourself down.

Robert Coronado: Better shape up for next year! I know you should have been with the top 3 guys.

Luis Beltran: Remember your talent can only carry you so far, you can seriously make a run next year for the top 3.

Gedyon Kiflezgi: I know you had a lot of pressure on you Oct 20, 2007, but hey we all have them days, unfortunately for you, you weren’t clicking on all cylinders, Congrats on an excellent season and let's not forget we will have to work to get you to that #1 spot next year.

Pre Season predictions LAST PLACE!

Ladies all I can say PR’S PR’S PR’S!!!!!!!!

You ladies were awesome all year long you constantly improved your times week after week after week did I say after week? Lol Jenny Mendez was our pace setter for our group. She established herself since the beginning of the year. Yes Jenny did not like doing long easy runs!!!! Yes Jenny is very outspoken, but hey we all need to find a way to believe in training. Our second woman was Gladys Pena our quietest leader yup she never says anything, but don’t get her mad jk Gladys! Brenda Perez was our 3rd best runner throughout the year if she did not have to work, I think we could have done something good! Angie Warden was our 4th runner all year a 360 improvement, it was a whole makeover for her, she was our 4th best runner but ended beating Brenda in conference for the third spot. In our 5th spot we had an injured Becky Sanchez! She was plagued with injuries after running successfully in the summer. You girls are commended for your efforts this whole season!!! I got nothing but praise for my girls! Good Job this season, we seriously need to work out this summer and bring 20's and 21's to the table.

Jenny Mendez NEW PR 22:02 – Awesome performances all year, get your grades up and continue running.

Gladys Pena NEW PR 23:11 We have to find out how much eligibility is left.

Brenda Perez NEW PR 23:14 Coming next year for more? Can we say let's run this summer and come back with a 20!

Angie Warden NEW PR 23:31 Improvements???? where I never saw them!!! JK pheww more than anything you should be happy considering the fact that you had never done cross!!

Rebecca Sanchez New PR 25:22 Sad to see you go senior! I know you will succeed wherever you are! Good Luck with your future and I will be sad to see you go!

In a nutshell it was all over before we even started! The season went by super fast, it is unbelievable how we come into the season all out of shape and wala in 6 weeks you are in great shape!
